Fairborn’s Housing History and Character
Fairborn's own history is inseparable from Dayton's worst flood: after the Great Dayton Flood of March 1913, the newly formed Miami Conservancy District built Huffman Dam for flood control, and in the process nearly the entire town of Osborn -- roughly 200 houses -- was physically relocated about two miles by mule and tractor in the early 1920s.

Osborn merged with neighboring Fairfield in 1950 to form Fairborn, and the city's Historic Osborn District still holds many of those relocated homes, a community literally built around flood-control engineering.
